Hi.

Welcome to my blog. Just doing my best over here. Come on in.

Intro to Stock Investing: The 80/20 Way

Intro to Stock Investing: The 80/20 Way

I was 27 when I decided to start investing in the stock market.

Initially, I called my Dad for guidance. He immediately directed me to Warren Buffet, asked about my philosophy when it comes to investing, and mapped out a detailed plan on how to select the best stocks. Whoa. I thanked him and immediately sought a second opinion, my aunt. My aunt has been in the market for a solid decade, with some great success. She kept it simple and provided some sage advice that matched my personality: “Buy something you believe in”, that’s it? Yup! Sounds good to me! If this resonates with your style and you’re looking to invest in the stock market, here are some tips:

  1. Open up a Brokerage Account

  2. Jot down a few companies you believe in, meaning, you won’t be too bummed if you lose money

  3. Buy your stock (!)

  4. Have fun

On October 20th of 2011 I bought my first stock shares, here is a list of what I believed in and set out to buy:

  • Lululemon (NYSE: LULU) Shares purchased: 10

  • Accenture (NYSE: ACN) Shares purchased: 10

  • Tampax (NYSE: PG): Owned by Procter and Gamble; Shares purchased: 10

  • Jennifer Lopez (JLO): Unfortunately, for all of us, she is not a publicly traded company

After 8 years, here is a look into those initial 30 shares I bought back in 2011:

My Original 30 Shares

Net Result: $3,964 profit over 8 years. Not bad!

Where I am at today: Since 2011 I have bought and sold other stocks, but I haven’t touched my original 30 shares. One could argue it’s because they were my first purchase. But truthfully it’s more because when I fast forward to a 100 years from now and picture my great grandchildren playing on the family ranch in Sicily, I smile knowing that it was all made possible because Great-grandma Neda believed in tampons.

Happy Investing,

Neda
